Story Of O: Production Stills
Story of O: Director’s Statement
"O" is a talented photographer in her late twenties with a promising career before her. She is torn, however, between the tasks financial realities are forcing upon her (taking jobs for hire, building her portfolio, etc.), and between her own artistic aims (she is working on a very beautiful, avant-garde book of original photos). Encouraged by her boyfriend, Rene, "O" decides that she should pursue her artistic passion without reservation, and leave the financial realities alone until she has completed her book. In hopes of enabling "O" to focus her energies on the book, Rene introduces her to a mysterious benefactor, the wealthy and powerful Sir Stephen. What starts out as a promising arrangement, turns out to be self destructive for "O". She allows outside influences to corrupt her artistic vision.

While struggling to finish the book, "O" befriends her model's younger sister, Natalie. Natalie is in her late teens, charming and is also an aspiring photographer. "O" takes Natalie under her wings. The enthusiasm Natalie shows for photography forces "O" to make a decision. She convinces Sir Stephen to use his patronage for Natalie's education, rather than for her book.

The sacrifice only results in "O" setting her book aside for a short while. However, Rene reveals himself to be a two-faced schemer and "O" ends their relationship. Thus, free of her ties to Rene, "O" and Sir Stephen begin to fall in love. In the end, Natalie gets the money for her education, "O" and Sir Stephen wed, and "O" gets the opportunity both financially and creatively to finish her book.

Based on a post-war French existential novel, this remake of THE STORY OF O is a modern, English-language version set in contemporary Los Angeles, that examines the roles of love and art in a world where people with power are constantly trying to turn others into people they are not.
